Japan Affordable # 1  -   Southern Honshu

Day 1 - Tue, Sep 15  -   Honolulu / Tokyo

Depart Honolulu via All Nippon Air to Narita  

Day 2 –  Wed, Sep 16  -   Tokyo

Arrive Tokyo  and transfer by motorcoach to our hotel Shinagawa Prince

Day 3 –  Thu, Sep 17  -  Hiroshima

We travel by Shinkansen bullet train with bento lunch to Hiroshima .  Afternoon at leisure to shoparound Hondori  or sightsee the surrounding area.

Day 4 –  Fri, Sep 18  -   Hiroshima / Miyajima / Hiroshima

Full day sightseeing to include the Hiroshima Peace Park and Museum, a reminder of the devastation of an atomic bomb and a hope for future world peace, and a visit to Miyajima, most famous for its gigantic torii gate and the nearby Itsukushima Shrine.  

Day 5 – Sat, Sep 19  -   Hiroshima / Iwakuni / Kurashiki

Sighseeing this morning takes us to the engineering wonder of the samurai period, the beautiful 5 arched Kintain Bridge in Iwakuni spanning the Nishiki River .  On the other side of the bridge  we visit Kikko Park which holds reminders of long ago.  Then,  we travel by Shinkansen bullet train to Kurashiki touring the Bikan Chiku area featuring merchants homes and storehouses which date back to the Edo (1603-1867)  and Meiji periods.(1868 -1912)  .

Day 6 – Sun, Sep 20  -   Kurashiki / Nara / Osaka

We board The Shinkansen for our next visit which will be to Himeji Castle , nicknamed the White Heron Castle .  This is the castle you may have seen on TV program, Abarenbo Shogun.  We continue on by Shinkansen train to Nara where we visit the largest wooden structure in Japan , the Todaiji Temple .  It houses the largest statue of Buddah in Japan .  After our visit with the sacred deer in the park we continue on to Osaka .  In Osaka we visit the Dontombori shopping and entertainment area of Osaka

Day 7 –  Mon, Sep 21  -   Osaka / Tokyo

This morning we visit Osaka Castle , originally built by Hideyoshi Toyotmi during the warring period.  We travel then by Shinkansen bullet train to Tokyo . Upon arrival we transfer to the Shinagawa Prince Hotel. Remainder of day can be spent visiting one of the popular shopping areas in Tokyo

Day 8 –  Tue, Sep 22  -   Tokyo / Honolulu

This morning, the early risers will take an early morning tour to the famous Tsukiji Fish Market to witness the fish auction.  After breakfast, we take a walking tour to Sengakuji Temple , the final resting place of the 47 loyal samurai. Afternoon at leisure for shopping.

Leave Tokyo via air in the evening.  Arrive Honolulu in the morning.

Japan Affordable # 2  -   Northern Honshu

Leave Oct 10, 2009              $2495 double

Day 1 -  Sat, Oct 10  -   Honolulu / Narita

Depart Honolulu via All Nippon Air to Narita.

Day 2 – Sun, Oct 11  -   Tokyo

Arrive Tokyo and transfer to the Shinagawa Prince Hotel.

Day 3 – Mon, Oct 12 – Tokyo / Sendai / Matsushima / Sendai

We travel by Shinkansen bullet train to Sendai and enjoy an eki bento lunch on board enroute to Sendai .Afternoon tour to Matsushima including the Godaido Pavilion, Zuiganji Temple and a boat cruise.  Matsushima Bay is considered one of the three most scenic sites in Japan .

Day 4 – Tue, Oct 13  -   Sendai Morioka / Hiraizumi / Sendai

Full day sightseeing to include Morioka Tezukuri mura where one can enjoy  senbei making and learn about the crafts of the northern Tohoku region. We continue on to Hiraizumi to visit the elaborate Golden Hall of Chusonji Temple .

Day 5 – Wed, Oct 14  -   Sendai / Aizu / Wakamatsu / Koriyama

All day excursion to Aizu Wakamatsu, an old castle town.  The main features of this town includes Tsuragajo (the castle), the samurai residences and the graves of the Byokkotai (White Tiger Band) samurai who committed seppuku as a show of loyalty to their lord.

Day 6 – Thu, Oct 15  -   Koriyama / Nihonmatsu / Tokyo

We travel by Shinkansen bullet train to Nihonmatsu for the Kikuningyo Festival.  Each year they have featured large dioramas depicting scenes and characters from the latest Taiga Drama featured on Japanese TV.  Continue by bullet train to Tokyo with accommodations at the Shinagawa Prince Hotel.

Day 7 – Fri, Oct 16  - Tokyo

Day 1 – Thu, Nov 12  -   Honolulu / Narita                                                                                                      

Depart Honolulu via All Nippon Air to Narita.

Day 2 – Fri, Nov 13  -   Tokyo                                                                                                                                    

Arrive Tokyo and transfer to the Shinagawa Prince Hotel.

Day 3 – Sat, Nov 14  -  Tokyo                                                                                                                     

Morning tour of Tokyo including Tokyo Tower, Imperial Palace Plaza, Asakusa Kannon Temple, Nakamise Shopping Arcade, and Tasaki Pearl Gallery.  This afternoon we visit Ueno Park and shop at Ameyoko Market.  

Day 4 – Sun, Nov 15  -   Tokyo / Mt. Fuji – Hakone / Tokyo                                                                                 

Full day tour to Mt. Fuji and Hakone.  Our tour includes Fuji Visitor Center, panoramic view of the area from the Mt. Fuji 5th Station, a cruise on beautiful Lake Ashi at the foot of the revered mountain where we get a bird’s eye view of the area from the Mt. Komagatake Arial Cableway (subject to weather/traffic).

Day 5 – Mon, Nov 16  -  Tokyo / Kyoto                                                                                                                      

We travel lightly with a 2 night bag and depart Shinagawa Station on board the Shinkansen bullet train to Kyoto.  We enjoy an eki bento as we travel to the ancient capital of Japan .  Afternoon tour by subway to see the gorgeous Heian Shrine and Gardens.  We continue to Kiyomizudera, one of the most famous temples in Japan fro where we get a fantastic view of Kyoto .  Evening walking tour to explore and see the many restaurants in the area.

Day 6 – Tue, Nov 17  -  Kyoto                                                                                                          

Morning city tour of Kyoto including Nijo Castle, the Golden Pavilion, Kyoto Imperial Palace, and the Kyoto Handicraft Center.  This afternoon we explore one of Kyoto ’s more prominent shopping arcades and in the evening we stroll on Pontocho Alley and the Gion Corner where you can relax and choose to enjoy dinner at one of the many restaurants, stalls, or department stores.

Day 7 – Wed, Nov 18  - Kyoto / Kamakura / Tokyo                                                                                                         

We leave Kyoto via Shinkansen bullet train to Kamakura .  Upon arrival we embark on a tour to visit Daibusu, a gigantic statue of the Great Buddha in a sitting position.  We will stroll to Komachi Dori, a festive street with many specialty products and restaurants frequented by locals.  Continue via rail to Tokyo and transfer to the Shinagawa Prince Hotel.  Time permitting we visit Harajuku, one of the most colorful areas of Tokyo .  On Takeshita Street we see young people in the latest fashions and even cosplay outfits.

Day 8 – Thu, Nov 19  - Tokyo / Honolulu                                                                                                                    

This morning, the early risers will take an early morning tour to the famous Tsukiji Fish Market to witness the fish auction.  After breakfast, we take a walking tour to Sengakuji Temple , the final resting place of the 47 loyal samurai.  Afternoon at leisure for shopping. Leave Tokyo via All Nippon Air in the early evening. Arrive Honolulu in the morning.
